Participation in Healthelink

Healthelink is open to individuals aged 15 years and younger or 65 years and older and who live in selected postcodes in the Hunter region and parts of greater western Sydney.


The eligible postcodes in greater western Sydney are 2142, 2145, 2146, 2147, 2148, 2150, 2153, 2747, 2750 and 2770.


The eligible postcodes in the Hunter region are 2320, 2321, 2322, 2323 and 2324.


For individuals 15 years and younger, you will continue to be involved in the pilot past your 16th birthday, if you choose to remain in Healthelink.

Taking part

It is your decision to remain in Healthelink. To give you time to decide, there is a 30 day period before your record is made available to health care providers. This period commenced when you first saw your health care provider at one of our participating facilities.


During the 30 day period, your information is not available to any health care providers to view. If you do nothing, your record will be available for your health care providers to view, after 30 days.


So if you choose to remain in Healthelink, your record will be updated with important information each time you visit a participating health care facility. If you decide that you want to withdraw from Healthelink, please call our Service Centre on 1800 75 22 66. Our staff will ensure that your record is not accessible to any health care provider.



Choosing to withdraw

You may decide that Healthelink is not for you. If so, there are a number of ways that you can withdraw from Healthelink. You can do this by:


  • calling our Service Centre on 1800 75 22 66
  • completing and mailing the 'Withdrawing from Healthelink' form
  • asking your family doctor to withdraw you (if they are participating)
  • using your online account (once you have access to your Healthelink record)

If you decide to withdraw from Healthelink you will still receive the same level of care available to all individuals using the health care system.



You can choose to withdraw from Healthelink at any time.
You can decide to rejoin Healthelink at any time.

Changing your mind

You can always decide to re-join Healthelink at any time. In fact, you can withdraw and re-join as often as you like.


Please note that for any period that you have withdrawn from Healthelink no information will be added to your record.


To re-join Healthelink simply call our Service Centre on 1800 75 22 66.




What we do with your Healthelink record

Once you have chosen to withdraw from Healthelink, we will make your record inaccessible to all health care providers.


So that we respect your wishes not to participate, we still need to keep your personal details so that your record can be flagged as ‘withdrawn’. This will ensure that we do not collect any further information for your record.


For legal and operational reasons, we will continue to hold any information that was collected up until you decided not to participate. Although this information will be held, it will not be accessible for viewing by any health care provider.
