What is Healthelink?

Healthelink - an electronic health record

Healthelink is an electronic record of your health information.

Your health information includes any details that may be collected about you while you are receiving care.

In Healthelink we only collect information that provides a summary from your visit to a health care provider. For example, your diagnoses (medical problems), medications, allergies, blood test results and the dates when you visited a hospital, your local GP or a community health centre.

Healthelink is designed to collect this information from existing systems and hold it in a central place where you and your health care providers can easily and quickly access it.

What this means for you

This means, for example, that your general practitioner can see information related to a recent hospital admission as soon as you have left the hospital. In the past, your GP would have had to wait for this information to be faxed or mailed to them, sometimes waiting days or weeks.

So each time you visit a participating health care facility, a collection of important details from your visit will appear in your Healthelink record.

We are excited to be able to include individuals in the pilot phase of this NSW Health program. We are confident that the ability to share information between health care providers will transform the quality of care that is received.
