Your rights

We understand that the privacy of health information is important. For this reason, there are strict access procedures in place so that only authorised health care providers are able to view Healthelink records. Every health care provider who is given access to Healthelink must sign an agreement to respect the privacy of your record and to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

And we have made the system as secure as possible to prevent unauthorised access to the system. With this in mind, we undergo yearly audits by independent specialists to make sure the system is secure from unwanted intrusion.

If you have any concerns about some of your information being accessible to health care providers through Healthelink, you have the option to withdraw from the program.

Below is an overview of our commitment to privacy. A full copy of the Privacy Policy is available below along with other important documents. It details all circumstances where your information may be accessed.

We will protect the privacy of your Healthelink electronic health record by:

	Only giving access to the Healthelink system to authorised users
	Collecting and storing your information securely
	Making sure that the health professionals who access your Healthelink record understand their privacy obligations
	Only allowing associates who you have chosen to access your record
	Allowing you to see who has viewed your record and what information they looked at
	Providing a complaint process for dealing with complaints in a timely manner

Apart from the specific Healthelink privacy policy:

	All participating healthcare organisations and Healthelink staff are bound by law and professional ethics to ensure the privacy and security of your information
	Appropriate systems and policies are in place to protect your information from loss, unauthorised access and misuse
	Healthelink is required by law to retain health records for certain periods of time
	Security of information is maintained in accordance with national and international security standards and the Health Records & Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act)
	The Healthelink privacy policy does not permit the use or disclosure of personal health information for any commercial purpose

Healthelink is an electronic health record system owned and operated by the Health Administration Corporation which is the legal entity which collects and holds Healthelink information. All Healthelink electronic health records will remain the property of the Health Administration Corporation at all times. It is your decision to remain in Healthelink.
